PCT Day 13

Miles: 145.5 - 151.8

Photo: Breakfast at Paradise Valley Cafe

Made it past mile 150 today! I had breakfast at Paradise Valley Cafe and then stayed long enough to grab lunch as well. That hiker hunger is definitely setting in. I’ve noticed around 5:00 PM each day I am SUPER eager to get to camp and eat dinner. I am going to start packing extra snacks to hold me over the extra hour or two from now on.

I was so anxious to get breakfast today that I hiked 7.5 miles without taking a break. About halfway through, I started feeling a bit of pain in my right foot that shot past my inner ankle and into my calf whenever I walked. The pain would disappear and reappear every few minutes so I thought it would be okay if I rested later. Bit of a mistake…

After I got up from eating, the pain was still there, and not really going away this time. I had a hunch it was gonna stick with me the rest of the day, and probably get worse. I decided the best course of action would be to take the rest of the day off and reeeelax. Listen to what my body is telling me after I ignored it once already. It’s not worth pushing extra miles with the potential of getting another injury. Last time I did that it took me off trail for a biiit longer than I wanted 😓

I got a hitch with Grumpy (a famous tail angel in these parts) into Idyllwild where I was able to stay with Jeannine and General, a pair of trail angels who graciously allow hikers to post up in their home. They‘ve been doing this for 10 years!! Absolutely amazing people. I got the tour, took a hot shower, did some laundry, relaxed outside in their beautiful backyard, and got more town food for dinner. It’s a little paradise here in Idyllwild! General called it a “Little Big Bear”. Gonna see how things feel tomorrow. Probably take a zero, who knows ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
